Health Physicist at Sizewell 'A'

1962 - 1980

An extract from his E-book, 'My Life with the Nuclear Industry':

'The Power Station would not start operating until 1967, so to be recruited in 1962 may seem a little extravagant of the CEGB. Not so, there is a lot of work for the first staff on a brand new power station. Each department was faced with its own tasks and the smooth operation of the Station in years to come would depend upon how well these tasks had been completed. Staff, whether they were professionals, skilled, or unskilled labour, had to be recruited and trained. Departmental structures, working procedures, and operating manuals had to be prepared.'

Barrie would stay at Sizewell 'A' as Health Physicist until he transferred to become Information Officer at the newly commissioned Sizewell 'B' in 1980.  He remained in post there until his retirement.
